Spain and France tour to discover Catalonia, a territory surrounding the Pyrenees
This cultural tour needs 5 to 7-nights to be done completely. Catalonia, at the Spanish border of France, has frequently been a disputed territory of the two nations or former kingdoms. Shared history and a common language make Northern (France) and Southern (Spain) Catalonia an interesting destination crossed by the Pyrenees and Andorra.
The Girona airport is a good starting point. Then, there are lots of things to discover! First, explore the cities of Roses and Girona along the coast of Catalonia. There are beaches, monuments, and lots of town history. Fun fact, Girona was used as a filming location for Game of Thrones. A small city with lot of history, Girona is great to wander. Secondly, visit Céret, Colliure, Perpignan, Prades in Occitaine, France to compare their cultures. Finally, on the way back pass through Puigcerdà and Andorra. Andorra is great because of its borders that allow visitors to see two countries in a day if they want.
This Catalan tour is an excellent combination of beautiful coastal and mountain landscapes. Furthermore, Romanesque Art, Modernism and Art Déco are everywhere. Lastly, we see Cathar castles and abbeys.
And all along, great culinary and wine experiences!
